Galapagos October 10, 2010 - October 25, 2010

Galapagos and Machu Picchu

This exciting expedition features an 8 day/7 night liveaboard exploring the Galapagos Islands plus 6 nights experiencing Peru.  Diving the Galapagos can be challenging, but the rewards are great - schooling hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, whale sharks, mantas and myriad other pelages frequent these waters. Nature's bounty is not confined to the waters, of course - Charles Darwin's work concentrated largely on the rare terrestrial ecosystems, which abound with flora and fauna unique to the archipelago.

The Humboldt Explorer is a new vessel, which began construction in August 2009 and will provide guests with exceptional amenities. All cabins are air-conditioned, have private bath/showers, an ocean view, flat screen televisions and can be arranged to provide 2 twin beds or one large bed depending on guest needs. A partially covered sun deck with jacuzzi and ample seating areas, a salon including a lounge area, a spacious dive deck with a large camera table are just some of the features.  The vessel is specially designed to handle to crossing from Ecuador to Wolf and Darwin Islands.

After the liveaboard this expedition will visit Peru's Sacred Valley and the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu.

The ruins of Machu Picchu, "lost" city of the Incas, perch precariously on the spine of an impossibly beautiful green mountain, 120 km's from the ancient imperial capital of Cuzco, Peru. Miraculously missed by Spanish invaders for three hundred years, it wasn't until American historian Hiram Bingham was led to the site in 1911 that the outside world learned of its existence. The finish line of the modern Inca Trail, your first glimpse of the site, upon cresting the final pass at sunrise, is a spiritual experience. Surrounded by a steep valley on all sides, the rising mist floating past stone terraces and grazing llama, Machu Picchu is one place that always lives up to its mythical status.
