Belize 7 Night Dive Vacation Packages

Belize is located on Central America`s Caribbean coast, just south of Mexico`s Yucatan Peninsula, and east of Guatemala.  Your international flight will take you into Ladyville, just ten miles from Belize City.  Taxi fare from the Phillip S. W. Goldson International Airport to Belize City will cost approximatley $25 - $30USD per taxi.  Dive trips are available from the mainland (all liveaboards depart from here), but most divers will take a short connecting flight to the many outlying cayes (islands) and atolls.

Thirty-six miles north east of Belize City is Ambergris Caye.  This is the largest most developed of all the islands, situated 1 mile inside the barrier reef, offering many great dive sites to choose from.  On the south end of the island is the town of San Pedro.   A variety of accommodations, restaurants and apres dive activites are available here.  In addition to the many great dive sites around Ambergris Caye,  full day, 3 tank boat dives are available to the Blue Hole and Lighthouse Reef.

Belize's 185 mile long barrier reef is the second largest barrier reef in the world, ranging from Ambergris Caye in the north, to Sapodilla Caye off Punta Gorda in the south.  Marine inhabitants include: 70 types of hard coral, 500 species of fish, 100 species of invertebrates, dolphins, whale sharks, loggerhead turtles, hawksbill turtles, eagle rays, stingrays, manta rays, nurse sharks, reef sharks, and the occassional hammerhead. Belize has 3 of the Caribbean's 4 coral atolls - ancient underwater volcanos, rimmed in coral.  Each forms a circular coral island with a central lagoon and houses distictive ecosystems that offer some of Belize's best diving.

Lighthouse Reef has many exciting dive sites, the most famous being the Blue Hole, an almost perfectly circular sinkhole 1,000 feet in diameter and 412 feet deep.  Massive stalactities Blue Hole created 10,000 years ago when the Blue Hole was an above ground cave, descend from the ceiling, some as long as 130 feet.  Divers can also explore the Blue Hole's tunnels and caverns.  Other dive sites in the area worth checking out are The Aquarium, Eagle Ray Wall, Half Moon Wall, Shark Point, Silver Caves and Nurse Shark Ridge to name only a few.

35 miles east of Belize City is Turneffe Atoll, the largest of the offshore atolls.  Comprised of almost 200 small islands, dive sites are varied and plentyful.  For those seeking the private island experience, Turneffe Island Resort is located here.  Over 70 dive sites, including Turneffe Elbow, are within minutes of the resort.

Glover's Reef was originally named after the English pirate John Glover, who used the atoll as a base for attacking Spanish merchant ships.  It is the southern most atoll and is only accessible by boat.  Dive trips are available by day boat from Dangriga, Hopkins, Sittee River, Tobacco Caye, South Water Caye, and by liveaboard dive boat.  It is comprised of six small cayes with wonderful white sand beaches and swaying palm tress.  Underwater its spectacular hard coral formations make the extra effort to get here worthwhile.

Belize is a stable country with a parlimentary democracy.  There has never been a war in Belize and their currency has never been devaluated.
